Lunch is Served!

THEY CAME! Not sure when or what kind, but 1/4 of the birdseed was gone from the DG tower yesterday! Still no takers on Southfork. My good friend Johnny has informed me that I might need to appeal to the Daphne bird. His theory is I've had Fairhope birds passing by my house and birds from Fairhope don't just stop for any random birdseed, nor would they stay in a Daphne birdhouse....it's the Grand Hotel or bust for a Fairhope bird. So, in my efforts to attract some down-home good ol' boy birds, I will erect at Trojan next to Southfork.

If you hang it, they will come......

So when I'm not fueling my obsession with Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society and curing cancer as a whole, I've tried to focus on other things to make me a more well rounded person. I decided a few months ago I'd like to become a bird person. I read an article about the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail (http://www.alabamacoastalbirdingtrail.com/ if you're interested) and I thought it would be a fun new pass time. In my efforts to become more "birdie" or whatever you want to call it, I bought a new bird feeder for the backyard. Straight from the Dollar General. We hung it up in the backyard on Sunday and I'll have to admit, I've been a little disappointed at the turn out. I've been watching it really closely and I've seen lots of fly-bys but none seem to want to stop and try out the new restaurant on the block. Who could pass up cracked corn and all kinds of delicious little seeds and what-nots? We also have a BIG FINE birdhouse on a 45 ft pole that my father-in-law put up for me last summer. I mean, free dinner and a nice place to stay? Does it get any better? Apparently it does because no birds have shown up yet. Here's a picture of one like I bought, mine's on the far left:



With that said, if anyone has any suggestions on how to attract birds to your top quality DG feeder and your Southfork-style birdhouse, email me.

Is it really a "vacation" with kids?

I'll have to answer that question with a big NO. The only people that get a vacation when you take the kids somewhere are....the kids, and the Dads that stay at home in the peace and quiet. Don't get me wrong, I adore my children, I just wonder whatever happened to Mama's good time??? Where is my vacation? Is there a quiet place just for mothers were we can go and drink fruity drinks with little umbrellas? Email me if you know of a Moms ONLY vacation destination....No Cleaning, No Cooking, No Diapers, No Snot....just fruity drinks, warm sun, and silence!

My Latest Obsession

My latest obsession is the Relay for Life of the Eastern Shore. I've become completely obsessed with raising money and planning for the event. It's been a good distraction for me to take my mind of my Dad's treatments and I kind of feel like I'm helping him out. I would love for anyone who wants to have a fun night to come and join me and my team (Providence United Methodist Church) at our campsite on May 2nd. Seriously, how could you miss me and Kiri tied together in a 3-legged race?
